Fashion from the Room: Boots

When it is cold outside, you want to keep your feet warm. One of my favorite ways to keep warm is not only to wear "fuzzy socks" but to also wear boots. There is a wide variety of boots to wear. From short ankle boots all the way to knee high boots. Not only do they keep you warm but they can match many outfits, depending on the boots.

If you have just have simple boots in black or brown, they are always easily matched with. It is likely to see a girl wearing her simple boots with her usual outfit. Boots are one type of shoe that I think girls should have. They are warm, cute, and can be worn formally and casually. I usually prefer the simpler boots just because it is much easier to match with outfits.

If you are feeling wild, you can always try different boots that are unique and a bit more flashy.



So get some boots if you haven't already. They don't have to be super fancy. They just have to be comfy for you, something that you like, and something that you could match with clothing easily (so you don't only wear it for "special" occasions.) Hope this gives you more of a fashion idea!

What we got for Christmas...

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! I was so busy and lazy today that I yet again, posted when it's almost midnight! I stayed home all day and slept in, so there wasn't really much I did but relax. There just wasn't very much for me to do.

I did get to open my presents though. This is what I got:

I got clothes, make-up, perfume/lotion, paints, a pen, and The Piano Guy's Album. I have to say, it's not everything that I had on my wishlist but I'm happy with what I got. Warm clothes are always nice for cold winter days. Cute skirts are nice for when I'm feeling a little girly (as well as the make-up). I've been into piano and painting a lot this year so those are also perfect gifts!

Shiny Sun/Hannah Bunny got a couple of gifts too:

Shiny got a Kidz Bop Sing-a-Long microphone toy, a "Crazloom" bracelet kit, a kid's art kit, and a "Trio" tablet. The Kidz Bop toy was just something I found at the store that I thought she would like... I was wrong. I wanted to find Harry Potter/Pokemon stuff for her but it's impossible to find cheap items of those brands at stores now-a-days. The two art kits are for her to be creative since she loves to draw and make bracelets. (I should get her to post some of her drawings sometime.) And then of course, there's the "Trio" Android tablet. That has to be her favorite gift. (Now she no longer has to steal my iPod.) Shiny also got a few other small items such as ornaments and clothing.

One of our aunt/uncle gave the two of us a kit that is almost the exact same as the "Crazloom" kit our other aunt/uncle gave to Shiny. Well, great minds think alike, right?

I also got little presents from my friends and our neighbors which were delicious. (Chocolate, banana bread, and popcorn galore!)

So that was my Christmas. I was originally going to get an iPad but I really didn't want it. My mom has been asking for an iPad for almost a year now, so instead, I gave it to her as a surprise. I am happy for what I got and I don't want any more electronics than I need. Sure, it would be nice to play on Xbox and Playstation but sometimes, it's nice to have little gifts that will make me happy then play games all day. (I already do enough of that on the computer.)

Christmas Eve Joys

Today has been a good day. A lot of good thing has happened. 

•Visit from a few neighbors: A tradition in our neighborhood is to give gifts for people on your street (or just your closest neighbors.) We already delivered our gifts but there were a couple of neighbors who came to our house to give gifts. I just love seeing all these small presents from my neighbors. Even if we aren't super close to each other, it's nice that we are all a community. So it was nice to get little treats from our neighbors. :)

•"New" neighbors: On one of the neighbors that dropped by our house today were familiar faces. Except, the last time we saw them, they didn't live 2 houses down the street! Today, my childhood guy friend who lived only a few blocks away, became my next door neighbor (well, almost next door neighbor.) I was surprised to hear that because I thought that I would never be able to see him again after I left our neighborhood elementary school. Now that he lives two houses down, I can no longer avoid him. I just hate that he had to see me looking my worst (messy hair, glasses, bad outfit, etc.) Not a good impression.

•Visit from an old friend: My mom's friend came over with her 4 boys today and they were happy to see us. They are the cutest boys ever. It was just nice to see them after 6 months.

•Visit from my Aunt Lisa and Uncle Minh: Right when I thought we couldn't get more visitors, we got one more visitor before leaving for the Christmas party. My aunt and uncle came and dropped off presents for ShinySun and me.  It was nice to see them before Christmas. I don't see them enough.

•Christmas party with the family: I had a Christmas party at my cousin's house (Uncle Loc's house) and it was so much fun. Sure, I didn't do much but it was nice to hang out with family. The adults had a gift raffle and it was amazing. Not only did people get good stuff but others got bad stuff... Like underwear and dog toys. It was a priceless moment. My mom got a cute little towel cartoon thing and it was adorable. I am typing this at the party because I know that I won't get home until after midnight... So yeah. The party was so much fun but it was exhausting.

I hope you all had a nice Christmas Eve! I sure did. I'll be sure to post my Christmas stuff in a couple of hours. Goodnight for now!

Winter Break!

Don't worry. I didn't forget about my promise.

I've just been so busy with Christmas shopping, doing housework, and other things that I haven't had the time to actually sit at my computer and type up something until now... when it's almost 12PM. (Hooray for Christmas preparations! Making me as busy as ever.) Although it is probably December 24th in majority of the time zones... But it's still the 23rd for me, so it counts!

At this point, I am so glad to not have school. I mean, my last week of school was just one word: TESTS. In almost every single one of my classes, I had an assessment (which was a test or project of some sort) before the end of break. It is really stressful to have to worry about Christmas, piano, and 8+ different assessments in one week. While other schools are watching fun holiday themed movies and just chilling, I get work in all of my classes. I didn't get to watch any movie or play any games. I just sat in a classroom, taking tests and such.

Friday wasn't all that stressful but everyone was hoping that school would be cancelled since it was a day before the break started. We had a big snow storm on Thursday so everyone was hoping there would be enough snow the next day (Friday) so we could just not go to school. Sadly, the snow stopped all of Friday and decided to come back on Saturday instead. Even though we didn't do much on Friday, I'm kinda glad I went to school.

There was an assembly at the end of the school day (which majority of the seniors and juniors left) that was just a school holiday concert. The band, concert choir, bell choir, and dance company performed for different segments of the assembly. There was a lot of laughing as the student body officers tried to raise as much money as possible for our school fundraiser. It was just a fun assembly to get everyone into the holiday spirit and a "Happy Holidays from Your High School!" I have to say, my favorite part of the whole assembly was when the "Boy's Drill Team" performed. (The "team" is just the male student body officers making fun of the girl's drill team.) Their Christmas performance was very amazing. Not only did they do some choreography from "This is Halloween" from The Night Before Christmas but they also performed "Jingle Bell Rock" from Mean Girls. They didn't have the dresses but the red short-shorts, red snowman t-shirt, and black panty hose was good enough to make it memorable.

Hopefully things will calm down a bit after Christmas because right now, my winter break has been crazy hectic (even without school.) I hope you are all having a nice winter break as well!

To my Fellow Follwers...

I apologize to all my fellow friends and followers for not posting recently.

The amount of work I've been doing this past month
(Okay, maybe that's a slight exaggeration.)

As you probably guessed, I've been extremely busy with school and life. I've been wanting to post a lot of stuff but I haven't had the time with the amount of things going on in life! Not only have I had to study for many classes, write essays, do projects, and keep up my social life, I also had to get ready for the holidays coming up!

I've just been completely swamped with things to do  that I don't have time to write. So, as an apology for not posting for almost a month, I'm going to make a commitment and post something everyday next week! Yup. I have never posted more than 2-3 days in a row so this will be a first for me! (I'm doing this because I need to post more and my winter break from school starts next week.) So look forward to the 7 day post from me! It will start on December 22 or 23.

Also, here's a little piece of artwork as an apology for my inactiveness. I did not too long ago for a contest. I didn't win but it was fun to draw.

The Wonderful Wiz

The Original "The Wiz"

On Thursday, November 21st, I went to see my high school production of "The Wiz." I usually don't watch live productions because they aren't cheap. (When they are though, I am all over for the production!)  "The Wiz" is a production of The Wizard of Oz. It's not any version of "The Wiz." It's the "soul version" of the Wizard of Oz!

I really enjoyed the show. The cast did well. Not only was there a lot of good music and dancing, but there was also a lot of good humor and acting. The main leads did an amazing job portraying the characters. I loved all the characters-- Including the Wicked Witch of the West.

As I watched Dorothy and her new friends travel on the yellow brick road to the Emerald City, I felt as if I were on the adventure with them. I was always hoping for the Lion to gain his courage, Tin man to gain his heart, and scarecrow to gain his brains. It was also a little nostalgic because I always remembered being afraid and also loving The Wizard of Oz when I was little. It just kind of made me happy to see everything I watched as a kid on TV, coming to life by mypeers.

I went to not only watch the production, but to also support my friends who are in the musical! Although they didn't have any lead roles, they did an amazing job as part of the chorus. They spent days after school rehearsing for the musical. Even if they have small roles, they change the mood of the auditorium quickly. I
was so proud to see them perform.

P.S. I feel that my favorite character now has to be Lion and Tin Man. I never really liked them until I saw them on stage. The actors portrayed them so well that I fell in love with them. (I also fell in love with the Good Witch of the South: Addaperle. She was so optimistic and quirky that I loved her. Glinda used to be my favorite witch but that might have changed....)

My Awesome Still-Life

I have drawn (or at least attempted to draw) a still-life before this year. The result? Let's just say... it looked nothing like a still-life. In fact, it just looked like a black and white charcoal outline of random objects.

So this year, I had to draw another still-life for Drawing 1 class. We could either bring a picture of the still life to class or choose from our teacher's collection of photos. I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do so I chose something random from my teacher's collection. (None of them were easy.) My instinct was 'I'm going to fail.' Of course, I didn't want to fail so I spent about 9-10 hours total on my still-life.

It could have improved much more but that's all I wanted to do since I spent so much time on it already. I turned my project in and received a 98%, which I was proud of.

Earlier this month, the school announced that they were displaying student artwork at the front of the school in front of the auditorium. MY STILL LIFE GOT DISPLAYED! All the other artworks displayed were original still-lifes and only my friend's and mine was from the teacher's collection.

I'm usually proud of my artwork but this is one of the best ones I've had yet.

I MISSED POCKY DAY?!

For those of you that don't know, I am huge fan of Japanese culture. Last year, when I was really getting into Japanese culture, I learned that November 11th was Pocky day! I didn't even know that something like that existed but it did... which I was so excited about. I promised myself that I would remember it this year (2013)... TURNS OUT I FORGET!

So, what is Pocky? It a thin biscuit stick that is covered in chocolate or different flavors. This is a common snack for Japanese teenagers but most people like pocky because it's such a light snack. Pocky can be addicting though.

The only flavors I've tasted are strawberry and chocolate but in other countries, they have dozens of pocky flavors. (I really want to try them all someday!) You can usually find these in Asian supermarkets and they are usually pretty cheap.

Since there's a holiday to celebrate Pocky, there must be a game with Pocky too, right? I've heard of the "Pocky Game" many times but I've actually never played it before. It seems kinda fun though:

The only "problem" with the Pocky Game is that your face is literally less than a foot away from your friend's face. I guess another point of the Pocky Game is to also get two people close enough so their lips touch and they kiss. (The things Japanese teenagers play!) I guess it's a good way to get two people who like each other together but, it's not my type of thing. I learned a way to win the Pocky Game without kissing though. Don't even take it slowly. You just go and bite the middle in one big swoop and intimidate your friend. (You can't both do it though or else everything won't end well.)

Well, that was your education on Pocky for today! Hopefully next year I won't forget about Pocky Day! I really want to try and make my friends eat some Pocky and have them try the Pocky Game.

Hallow's Eve 2013

Happy Hallow's Eve everyone! (Or Halloween if you prefer it.) I hope you had a good Halloween if it ended for you already! If not, I hope you are having a good one so far!

How's my Halloween been? It's been pretty decent. I saw a whole bunch of costumes at school today but not too many. I saw a Slenderman, couple of cross dressers, a Minecraft creeper, couple of Mary Poppins, lots of animals, couple of superheroes, vampires, a lot of video game characters, and more. I didn't wear my pirate costume because I didn't feel like wearing it all day and I'm afraid of getting it dirty. 

Even though I have a costume, I'm not sure if I'm going trick-or-treating because my it's going to be weird going with my little sister and our neighbors... Who are all younger than me. I guess I haven't grown out of trick-or-treating yet so might as well while I can? I'll see.

Even if I don't go trick-or-treating, I still have a Halloween party with my new neighbor! That's still something to look forward to. The only problem with Halloween is that teachers still expect you to do all your homework. So I have to get as much homework done before the party... Which is going to take awhile. Why can't we just have a day off after Halloween? That would just make everyone much happier.

Anyways, enough of my rant. I hope that you guys all have/had a good Halloween! I haven't gotten a good scare this Halloween but I might later tonight... Stay safe and eat lots of candy! (Especially your favorite candies.)

People like me?

This is really random but yesterday, something really strange happened to me.

So I was standing outside of school with my friend. We were waiting for our rides home and we were just talking about different things. Then all of the someone, a Hispanic guy I don't even know comes up to me, taps my shoulder and said, "Hey. I just wanted to say that my homie here," he pointed to his 'homie,' "likes you."

At that point, I was thinking to myself:

This is a guy I have never seen before in my life and he said he likes me? My only response was an awkward "Okay," because I was in a heated discussion with my friend... And I just didn't know how to respond.

It just kinda took me by surprise because it's rare for someone random to just come up to me and say "He/I like(s) you."  Since this was a guy I don't even know, then I'm guessing he's saying I'm attractive?... Whaaaaat?! (If my friend or someone I knew came up and said that to me though, then I know they are talking about more than just looks. )

So now, I'm thinking "maybe they were just joking around. My friends and I do that sometimes." I didn't really pay attention to their facial expressions because, I was in a heated discussion with my friend. Maybe if I did, I could tell of they were joking or not... (Plus, he wasn't that attractive either... Just saying.)

Either way, hearing someone say that to me is so rare that I had to tell someone!... So why don't I just post it on the Internet for thousands to see...? (Hooray me!)

My First Husky Howl

So yesterday, I went to my first high school Halloween dance. (Our school calls it Husky Howl since our school mascot is a husky... and Husky Howl sounds cooler than "Halloween Dance.")

To be honest, I didn't like it compared to Homecoming. I think the only reason because I prefered Homecoming more was because of the groups of friends I went with. This time, I didn't feel like I belonged with everyone, unlike Homecoming.

But the dance itself was very enjoyable. The whole place was themed around "Night At Hogwarts." I have to admit, the club in charge of the dance did an amazing job with decorations. Everyone was sorted into different houses and every hallway was a "street" from the series. It was a perfect theme for the Husky Howl. The music that the DJs played was slightly better than Homecoming's but still, I felt that it wasn't as fun.

To me, the quality of the dance depended on who I was with. The dance itself was amazing. It was just the group of friends I was with that I disliked. (That sounds horrible but it's true.)

Since it was a Halloween dance, I dressed up. I wore the same pirate costume I wore 2 years ago (yes, it still fits me!). Since no one has seen me with my costume, I re-wore it. I forgot how short the skirt was though.

So that's the Husky Howl for me. I don't know if I will go again next year but I still had fun. Be safe this Halloween!

Poptropica: Poptropolis Games 2013!

Earlier in 2013, I posted about Poptropica's new island, "Poptropolis Games," sinking back into the ocean once again. (Read my post on it here.) Everyone was devastated to hear that the new island was no longer playable.

Until recently, the Poptropica Creators have announced that the Poptropolis Games are coming back! "How though?" you ask. "I thought it rises every 100 years and it's only been 10 months!" It does rise every 100 years, my dear reader, but the Creators have found a way to rise it earlier.

We. Dig.

That's right. Every Poptropican is going to keep digging until the games can rise once again. You can go dig now by going to Poptropica and clicking where Poptropolis island once was. You don't dig very much but you can go down and dig as many times as your heart desires. Even though it sounds tedious and difficult, there's a prize to digging. Every time you dig, your Poptropolis tribe receives a point. Whichever tribe has the most points will be honored in Main Street once the games rise again. So go dig.

So if we can keep digging, we can raise the games back again in early by 99 years!... That seems a little risky but if we can raise the games, I don't think I can complain. (I feel like things are going to go out of balance but we can fix it... right?)

As you can see, once we raise the island, there's going to be 2 new competitions: Volcano Race and Octopus Volleyball. With two new events, that allows even more chances to compete and find a new favorite event?

Well, the Games should be coming back before 2014 so be excited for that! Other than the new events, look forward to the music, sounds, and bigger screen in Poptropolis Games 2013!

Want Better Memory?

Being a student, it's hard to remember everything that you learned from class. Why is it that no matter how long you look at your textbook, you just can't seem to memorize the material! You are so confident to ace the big exam and then BAM, you forgot half of the things you studied for hours.

There could be many factors in why you failed that exam. Maybe it was your study skill? Or maybe it was because you weren't studying the right materials? Whatever it may be, it is not your memory's fault. Your brain is very capable of memorizing many things. The only problem is that you don't do things to remember better.

So here's 3 tips on how you could improve your memory. (Memory skills and study skills are different.):

1. You didn't pay attention in the first place or wasn't interested.
Sometimes, you think you paid close attention when you didn't. You can catch onto little details sometimes but there are other times when you just forget. Or maybe it's because the subject wasn't that interesting for you. If it's something you don't think you need to know, then you're going to forget it. If you have a boring class, you are going to have to try harder to keep yourself interested in order to memorize everything.

2. You didn't have enough repetition.
Your brain loves repetition. You tend to remember things if you repeat it over and over again. That's why it's good repeat what you write so you can memorize things. When you repeat things over and over again, you are telling your brain that it's important to keep in your brain. If you stop repeating what you've just learned, then you forget it right away. So if you've ever broken up with someone, it's a lot harder to forget them if you keep remembering them because you are making your brain remember it.

3.Other things interfere with your memory.
When you take a test, there are usually tricky questions that can mess with your memory. For example, there's those questions with "All of the above," "Both A&B," etc. Just the thought that it could be more than one of those answers interferes with your memory. That's why questions like those are always harder to answer (unless you know exactly what you're doing.) This is hard to avoid but you just have take all outside information away from your memory in order to improve it.

Well, I hope some of these tips help to improve your memory. Hopefully you can ace the next test with these memory skills.

A Little Sonnet by Me

I had to write a sonnet for English class. I finished it and I am so proud of myself that I'm going to share it. (Why not?)

It's a Shakespearean Sonnet so it's in iambic pentameter, 14 lines, and follows the specific rhyme scheme (ABAB, CDCD, EFEF, GG.) Let me tell you, writing in iambic pentameter is a very tedious thing to do! It took me forever to get the "stressed" and "unstressed" syllables just right. This is why Shakespeare is a genius. I had to use the dictionary and thesaurus to write my sonnet... He only had his writing skills.

Anyways, here's my sonnet! (It's based off of the anime/manga Angel Beats! so if you've watched it, you can probably relate to it better.)

Faith is unfair

Our past lives ended brutal and unjust.

We lived for a short time, lives incomplete.

Our bodies altered to debris and dust

The past left us with nothing but defeat

We were alive without a goal in life

Then we found something priceless to protect:

Career, loved ones, band, music, future wife.

But death came before things could take effect

We can't move on because of our regrets

Faith is unkind to steal our dreams away

She took our wish; a crime we can't forget. 

Is it wrong to say that we were betrayed?

Faith is not always kind, for she's unfair

And all she did was put us in despair.

This is probably one of the deepest piece of writing I have wrote in a while... All I hope is that I get a good grade on it. (Even if I don't, I'll still be proud of it!)

I think this turned out so well because I was trying hard to add the characters of Angel Beats! into my sonnet. I really wanted to express their feelings about their previous lives. Their emotions are so strong that I could somehow connect with them.

If you haven't watched Angel Beats!, you need to. I promise you, it changes your life...

...I was bored this summer so I drew a bit. Here are some random artwork done by me.

Pikachu Couple:
One of my favorite pokemon is Pikachu. So I decided I would draw a couple in Pikachu hoodies. It doesn't have much detail as I would like but it turned out pretty well. My picture was inspired by the pikachu couple picture below my drawing.

Homecoming 2013

So if you read my post last week asking whether I should go to homecoming or not... This is a continue of it.(Click here to read it if you missed it.)

As you probably figured, I went to homecoming yesterday! (Thank you RedWing for your feedback. I took your advice and the advice of all my other friends.) It was different from my middle school dances for sure. I mean, at my old school, the dances had about 60-70% middle school going and it was only from 5-7PM. Homecoming was similar but there was only about 20% of the school that went and the dance was from 7-10PM. Plus, there was a formal dress-code which I NEVER had with my other dances.

I went to homecoming with a group of friends. We had "dates" but some of them were unofficial and we mainly stayed as a big group. It ended up being uneven however because one of the girls couldn't go last minute. (So we had one "bachelor" in our group.) It was really fun going as a group. We just messed around, danced awkwardly, and had crazy fun. Even on some of the slow songs, we tried to have some fun.

When we weren't in a group, we were dancing with our dates... but that only happen a couple of times. My "date" was my guy friend G. He never asked me to go with him. It was just a pairing my friends did for us... But none of us opposed so I guess it was okay.

Last night was the first dance I've ever had with a guy. (Dances where I was forced to be paired up don't count.) I know it's really really late for me to have my first "couples" dance but I was never popular in middle school. Plus, none of the guys had the guts to ask me to dance with them. :P Either way, I would never imagine that my first dance would be with a guy like G. He's not the type of person, appearance wise, that I would dance with when two years ago but that doesn't matter because he's so sweet. ^_^ 

Homecoming was truely an amazing experience. My feet hurt like crap from dancing in heels but it was worth it. I got to have a fun time, meet some new people, get some more exercise, and dance with my friends.

It's been a month of high school and I'm already getting a group of friends... I guess I owe it to my social friend though.

Homecoming or Not?

It's been almost a month since my first day of high school! I can't freakin' believe it.

So as most of you know, most high schools have a "Homecoming" after a month or so of school. Well, my school has a homecoming dance next week and I'm not sure if I should go. It's a "guys' choice" dance which means the guys get to choose their dates. Being a girl from outside the district boundaries, I know very few people and hardly any boys would actually ask me to the dance. I mean, I have a few guy friends but I highly doubt any of them are going to ask me to be their date. (They've had 2 weeks and so farnothing.)

My friend G. said that we (that means he, a whole bunch of his other guy friends, my friend Abhi, my gal friend M, and I) should go to the homecoming dance as a group. It doesn't sound bad, but that means I'd have ONE WEEK to find an outfit for the dance... and I'd have to spend $10, since tickets are $20 a couple.

I'm still debating whether or not to actually go. It would be fun but I honestly don't know if I want to go... Since there's going to be couples everywhere and I'm going to be surrounded by guys with only one gal friend in my group.... (I know some of you girls are thinking I'm crazy to not go right now.) Still, it's a decision I need to make and I need to make the decision FAST.

I feel horrible that I actually have to think about whether I should go or not. Am I really that shy and unsocial that I can't just say "yes" to a school dance with a bunch of friends?! ...Looks like it but I really hope not. My choices for next Friday night is to spend my night on the Internet or go socialize... I feel so stupid right now.

I'm still uncertain if I should go though. >.< Suggestions on what I should do?

10 Funny Things To Do at an Amusement Park

So on August 19th, I went to an amusement park with my 7 of friends (the week before school.) To be honest, we did some pretty crazy things.

We were so crazy, we attracted attention... So here are some of the funny things we did during our Amusement Park trip! (Somethings on the list were ideas that we never.)

10 Funny Things to Do at an Amusement Park!
(Recommended for a group of 6+ people.)

1) Scream.We all have our favorite roller coasters. When it starts going down, everyone scream something random in unity.
A few examples: "I like puppies!," "For Narnia!." "We are all going to die!," etc.

2) If you see security cameras, wave at them and start dancing around, even if they aren't working. The people in line will still see you.

3) Overreact how scary the ride is going to be when you are in line. Best for kiddie rides.

4) If you are on one of the swing rides as pictured below, pretend to have a photoshoot while on it. So bring a fake camera (if allowed on ride) and just start "snapping" pictures while your friends are posing and swinging.

5) Start dancing the macarena or Gangnam Style while in line or where there's a lot of people.

6) On bumper cars, just get to the middle of the area and start spinning in circles. (You might get bumped a few times.)

7) Battle of the best! Split your group in half when you go on one of the swinging boat rides as pictured. (Make sure it's one of the rides that only go left and right and not upside-down!) Have half of the group on the left side and half on the right side of the ship. Think of two opposing things or phrases said after something else. Assign a side for a thing. Every time the ship goes up, that side has to scream their thing. See if you can get all the other passengers to scream with you.

Ideas: "Marco-Polo," "Peeta-Gale," "Jacob-Edward," "Facebook-Twitter," etc.

In case you are confused: We split the group so that the left group had team "Edward" and the right group had team "Jacob." (Twilight reference) When the left side was higher, the left group would scream "Edward." When the right side was higher, the right group would scream "Jacob." (So it seems like the two sides are debating.)

8) Have some fun with the ride attendants! We met a few attendants who have "sass" and/or a bubbly personality. If they start talking to you in an accent, have a brief conversation with them in the same accent! You will make the attendant's day better and your day better as well.

9) Bust out a beat on the log flumes. When you and a few other people are in the ride and waiting for the drop, start making some music. Everyone will play a different beat on the flume while one starts making random "ritual" noises (like Nemo's from Finding Nemo "Shark Bait oo-ha-ha" bit.) Plan it out when there aren't any people. Once you see a few people, start the beat again until they are out of sight. When you see people at the boarding area, start the beat once again until you get off. You'll feel like a Native American.... maybe.

10) On a ride where you pass people who are in line (rapids are a great one,) have one person yell "Everybody clap your hands!" Then everyone on the ride has clap their hands until the line is out of sight/hearing range. This is just to get people wondering why the heck you are clapping.

So yeah... Those are some crazy things we planned/and did during our trip to our favorite amusement park. We got quite a few strange looks but we still had a blast. I wouldn't recommend these things at a theme park (Universal, Disney, etc.) since they are more specific but any typical amusement park would be fine.

Brace Face, No More!

After almost 3 years of wearing braces, I finally got them off! You have no idea how excited I was when I heard I no longer need braces.

I really like braces because they straighten my teeth but it's painful when they have to be tighten it. Taking care of my teeth and braces was a pain (very hard to floss.) 

So now that I have my braces off, I can finally floss without taking a decade! I mean, I still have to wear retainers but that's different. It's not as painful as braces and not as distracting.

So now I have straight teeth and no braces! Thank you mom and dad! 3 years paid off. Now it's time for me to get rid of all my extra elastics from the orthodontist.

My First Week of High School

I really wanted to talk about my first day but I was busy so I'm just going to talk about my week.

If you want a quick summary of my week, it involves an AP Government teacher who doesn't have the "cleanest" mouth; a land of flatness; public display of affections everywhere; a Taylor Swift look-alike; speed dating; and an ecstatic school assembly.

Interested on some of the details? Alright...

For first period, I have AP Government/Politics. To be honest, the teacher has to be one of my favorites. Not only does he remind me of my 7th/8th grade science teacher but I love his humor. It's cruel humor but not in a hurtful way. He is so honest that you can never expect a "sweet sugar coated" answer. Plus, he tends to swear a bit (which is new since I rarely hear teachers swear during my middle school years) but I just choose to ignore it. Other than that, he's super fun.

For English, I have to read a book called "Flatland." It is such a short book but the complicated sentences and story can make it a hard read. The concept of the land of 2-Dimensional world made my mind blow. It's just amazing yet strange. I've only read the first few chapters but so far, it's very interesting.

Being in high school, you are bound to see couples around the school. For me, I see it every hallway. PDA everywhere. Some couples just hold hands during passing time but some just go all out. I mean, come on. We are in school and there are thousands of people. Everyone knows you are a couple if you hold hands. You don't have to do all "that" in front of everyone, okay? I really don't need to see it when I'm trying to get to class.

One of the highlights of my week was meeting a girl who looks like Taylor Swift. She's in a few of my classes and I'm doing a project with her and another girl named Stephenie. The way Valerie did her hair and makeup on Friday made her look so much like Taylor Swift. One day, Valerie might try to dress up like Taylor Swift just to see how many people would think she was actually Taylor.

My favorite class right now is Psychology. I took the class because I thought it would be fascinating to learn how the brain functions. It became my favorite once I met the teacher. He is so fun and makes you feel relaxed and "at home." Mr. F. told our class that in order for this class to work, we must become a "family." So, on the second day of class, we were to meet every single person in the class and remember their names. What better way to do it than speed date? I was familiar with what speed dating was and I never expected to "speed date" during my 10th grade year! I spoke with 34 people that day. You have no idea how fried my brain was once I spoke with everyone and tried to remember their names. My friend Abhi (he went to previous school with me) asked me what my "method" was during the speed date. (By "method" he meant getting an actual date.) I had no method because I wasn't taking this class activity that serious.

On Friday, I had my first school assembly. It was interesting. At my old school, the assemblies were really boring. We just sat there and listened to people talk most of the time. My high school assembly had live music, dancing, cheer, and more. Sure, it's a high school but the assembly was fun. It wasn't really about the school but the clubs, school spirit, and talents. I would rather sit through performances than sit through a boring lecture.

Well, that was long... but a lot happened on my first week! I already have quite a bit of homework and it's most likely going to get worse as the year goes by. Here's to high school!

Debussy Google Doodle

This is just a really quick post...

I was searching on Google.com today and there was a new "Google Doodle." (You know, I really love these because they are so creative and fun.)

Today, August 22nd, 2013, the doodle was featuring one of my favorite classical artists, Claude Debussy! The doodle is so rhythmic, warming, and beautiful. <3 Plus, it features one of Debussy's greatest songs, Clair de Lune. Beautiful song and doodle indeed. (I especially loved how the lights in the background match the song.)

Now I will almost always remember Debussy's birthday. I hope you do too.

Back to School 2013!

Ack. I can't believe my summer is over already!
Good things always have to come to an end, right? Well, I guess it's time for me to go back to constant learning, homework, stress, and drama! (Hooray... not really...)

I'm actually kinda excited to get back to school but that just means I have less time to watch animes and TV shows (I didn't get to watch as many I wanted to this summer.) I've done a lot of back-to-school shopping but it's difficult to know all the supplies I need since it's a new school and new teachers.

I finally "found" a locker partner though! I'm going to be sharing a locker with my guy friend from my old school. We got our locker number on Thursday... but we had (and still have) no idea where it's located. It's supposed to be upstairs in hallway "E." When we looked at our map, there was no hallway "E" at all. That means MY LOCKER IS IN A HIDDEN HALLWAY. Not spooky or confusing about that, right? I'll just have to find it tomorrow morning...

On Thursday August 15th, I went to my school for orientation. Aside from getting my locker number, I also got to go to all my classes and meet my teacher. I had a schedule change so my class schedule's like this now:

A Day-

• Mandarin Chinese 1
• English LA 10H Advanced
• Drawing 1

B Day-

• Secondary Math 2 Honors
• Chemistry Honors
• Psychology 1
• Lifetime Fitness

So far, the teachers are really nice and it looks like I'd be able to make friends easily. I will miss my old friends though.

The only problem with my schedule is the location of the classes. At my old school, I was used to going around 2-3 hallways. At this school there are 2 stories with about 10 hallways each and a separate building. I have to run up and down the stairs while going to the other side of the school for almost all of my classes. I don't know where my locker is too so... I think I'll have to carry my books and supplies with me for the first week or so of school.

All I could say is that I play piano and speak Cantonese. If I say anything else (like I'm an Otaku, a Disney fanatic, or writes a blog), I'm probably going to get weird looks...

So, no more sleeping in and late nights for me! School's tomorrow so the best of luck for me. I really need it...

Poptropica: "Create Your Dream Island" Contest (Information and Tips)

It's time to make your dreams come true! For all you creative people out there, it's time to get your thinking caps on.

We all have our favorite island(s) but sometimes, it's not enough. There's always an island you'd like to play but you know it's not going to happen. Well, now it's your chance to make your dream island come true! The Grand Prize winner will have their idea created into a real playable Poptropica Island! (The 10 runner-ups and grand prize winner will receive a full set of Poptropica Books.)

A great way to get started is to buy the Island Creator Kit which offers great tips on how the creators create the islands. Using the kit, you can have a better idea on how to create your own island. But, for those of you who are on a tight budget (like yours truly) then you need to start from scratch. Even if you don't purchase the kit, you can still enter the contest! I'll give you some tips on how to create your own island without the guide later in the post.

Before you start creating, you should probably know the details...

Important Information

The contest is for ages 8-12 and residents of the fifty (50) United States of America and The District of Columbia.

You need to print out the official entry form, fill it out, and send it to the mailing address on or by December 24, 2013 and the entry needs to be received on or by December 31, 2013.

Everything has to be original. People want a Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. island. The reason why Poptropica hasn't used ideas and characters? Copyright. Unless Poptropica has permission, they cannot use these characters created by someone else. If it has anything copyrighted, then the chance of it becoming an island is most likely impossible. Even Captain Crawfish said so:

"No licensed properties

Believe us, we'd love to make an Island in which Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen team up to fight Darth Vader. But it's not up to us. Other people own those properties. For this contest, we can't use existing characters, stories, or fictional worlds -- period. So make sure that everything in your entry is an original idea!"

 (I have to admit, it would be pretty interesting to see Harry Potter and Katniss Everdeen team up to fight Darth Vader.)

Tips From Crawfish

Before I tell you my tips, the Captain Crawfish posted a few hints on how to make your entry stand out:

"A setting we've never done before

It might sound simple, but one of the very best ways to get our attention is to set your Island in a place we've never done before. Sometimes that's all it takes for us to get excited about an idea. Even if you have a great story, if it's set in Old Japan or on the moon, we'd probably pass. But if it's somewhere new, we'll be interested. Look for something that's never been done on Poptropica!

An interesting time period

Another way to catch our attention is to look into the distant past, or the far future. For instance, when we were writing Mystery Train, we started with the idea of a mystery story set on a moving train, but it wasn't until we decided to place it in a historical moment -- the 1893 World's Fair -- that the whole thing came together. The when of your story may be as important as the where.

A twist on a familiar tale

We like genre stories. That's why we often start with time-honored premises: a Wild West story, or a vampire story. But try to figure out what makes your idea different. For instance, Astro-Knights Island mashed up two familiar genres -- knights and aliens -- to make something new and original." 

Take these hints into HUGE consideration. These 3 things are probably what the judges are looking for.

My Tips

Here are my tips on how to create an island:

Brainstorm
Write down every idea you have. It doesn't matter if they sound crazy. Write it down in case your first idea doesn't quite work. It's always good to have many ideas so you have a variety of choices. The more, the merrier! Remember, it's okay if they don't work out. It's all part of the process.

Use different references
If you are ever stuck on something, try to think back on your favorite island(s). What made your favorite island fun? Do you want it to be challenging with bosses? Was there a feature that you really loved in one island and you want to do the same in yours? Using previous islands as a reference is great to get more ideas but remember to try to be creative as well!

Do some research
If you are going to do a twist or time period, you probably should do some research. Could you imagine if Mythology Island had Medusa turn people pink instead of stone and if Poseidon was the King of dirt instead of the sea? Know your subject so you can make it accurate. You don't want to confuse the judges (unless you want your island to be inaccurate.)

*I have not looked at the kit so if these tips are in the kit, it was unintentional.

10th Grade Registration

School is almost here... Which means I have to prepare for the year.

Yesterday, I went to my high school for registration (I thought I was going another day but my parents decided that the earlier, the better.) There were a lot of people so it was really hot and stuffy around.

We had to do the Online Registration (since we didn't have our passcode yet) and that took about 20 minutes. Next was school fees and information with parking and lockers. Since our school has a lot of students and not enough lockers, we have to find partners for lockers.

You know how hard that is for me? I only know one student in the whole school and that's because he went to my previous school (he's a friend.) I mean, we probably will end up sharing lockers since we both agreed it would be better to share a locker with someone you know than a random s
tranger. I just don't know if my parents like the idea of a guy and girl sharing a locker. I honestly don't mind since I know he won't snoop around my stuff...

I dunno if I should just share with him for the whole year or should I find a random stranger I don't even know to share. I really need some advice here. >.<

Despite my locker problem, I still went through registration smoothly. We had to take school pictures that day (so it was pretty much picture day for me) and receive our student ID card. It's much more efficient to do it like this than my old school.

After pictures, it was time for me to pick up my schedule! I was pretty satisfied with my classes except for a few changes needed to be made.

Since my school does International Baccalaureate (IB for short), they have certain class courses that you should take in order to take IB. I need to change my history/social studies course to "American Government and Politics AP." It's an 11th and 12th grade course but I'm allowed to take it if I plan to take IB. Then I also have to change my English to "English LA 10H Advanced" for IB as well. 'B'-days will certainly be a challenge with all my tougher courses in one day but that might change depending on how they change my schedule.

I'm kinda excited for school... but I know I won't have as much free time once it starts. Might as well enjoy my last few weeks until then!
